  Good morning. Los Angeles is in love with the egg salad sandwich served at Konbi, a tiny daytime restaurant in Echo Park: chopped eggs in Kewpie mayonnaise, tucked between slices of pillowy Japanese milk bread, with a soft-boiled egg hidden in the middle. Cut just so, and arranged on the plate like a movie star at the beach, the sandwich is, as Tejal Rao wrote for The Times this week, “both delicious and alarmingly pretty.” Of course she got us the recipe (above).

  And, of course, you should make that sandwich for lunch today. It is not that hard to assemble the ingredients. But putting the thing together correctly requires as much the bearing of an engineer as the exuberance of an artist. So follow the cut list close! Set yourself up with extra eggs, to allow for a margin of error. And document your work, like all those who hashtag the sandwich on Instagram. Then enjoy.

  While you’re working on that? Would you consider roasting a haunch so you can make po’boys for dinner, whether watching the Super Bowl or not? You could also make spiced red lentils. And set yourself up for Peking duck, in advance of the Lunar New Year.

  So that’s today. On Monday, I’m thinking, you could make Samin Nosrat’s recipe for French onion panade. It takes forever to cook, but it’s simple and forgiving along the way, and you can read while you stir: Someone turned me on recently to Ian Hamilton’s novels about a Chinese-Canadian forensic accountant, Ava Lee. I’m going to try his first one, “The Water Rat of Wanchai,” to start.

  Tuesday’s the Lunar New Year, and if you’re not going for that Peking duck I suggested starting on Sunday, some longevity noodles would be a nice start to the festivities. They’d be auspicious to boot.

  For dinner on Wednesday, simplicity reigns: sheet-pan chicken with sweet potatoes for maximum flavor, minimum mess.

  Which brings us to Thursday and maybe a mushroom and Parmesan tart? Or a classic shrimp scampi instead, with plenty of sesame bread to mop up the sauce, and a Lucali salad afterward?

  Either way I’d like to end the week with a platter of beef stroganoff and some rice or parsleyed noodles — which you’ll discover, if you check the recipe notes that run below the instructions, are a sourdough starter for memes, and delicious alongside any stew or braise.
